B. Lovely – Gewurztraminer – 2024 – Walla Walla, WA
Price: $13.99 – Total Wine

I really enjoy a Gewurztraminer on a warm day, so I took advantage of a “warm” winter day to try B. Lovely from Washington State. Maybe it just wasn’t warm enough, but this was just not a good Gewurztraminer, or white wine at all.
There was real hope when the wine first smelled like pears with a hint of lemon. It looked clean and light. But the taste is where the wheels fell off the wagon.

This wine is sweet. Not like a moscato or something you can find at the bottom shelf of a gas station. Each sip was like putting a dab of honey on your tongue, which was very overpowering and had no complexity beyond that. The intense sweetness overwhelms any shot other flavors would have. It was only honey, or honeysuckle. At least it tasted like natural honey.
After it was open for a while, I was surprised the wine lightly smelled of vomit, which I’m very glad disappeared after a while. Eventually a hint of a nutmeg finish was able to protrude through the sweetness. I couldn’t tell if I was just starting to get used to the flavor, or if it stopped being extremely sweet at a certain point.

This Gewurztraminer might pass as a dessert wine, but it’s definitely not a Gewurztraminer. It should have a hint of honeysuckle, not made entirely of honeysuckle.
Strangely, I couldn’t find who owned B. Lovely, and it didn’t have any real online presence. So I have no idea how this fake Gewurztraminer shows up on store shelves.
