Pigtown Limited Release – Sweeeeeeet Watermelon – N/V – Tomasello Winery – Hammonton, NJ
Price: $9.95

A good New Jersey wine continues to escape me, as I get brave enough to try Pigtown’s Limited Release of Sweeeeeeet Watermelon wine. Yes, the label has that many “e”‘s, which I still don’t think is enough.
This grape wine, made with “natural” flavor comes from Tomasello Winery, which I can only assume has better wines, but I wouldn’t trust after drinking this watermelon wine not made with watermelon.

This is the first wine I’ve ever tried that had intoxicated pigs on the label. It looks like happy hour at a bar where Congressional interns gather. And if that wasn’t off-putting enough, there was the watermelon pink-colored wine itself.

The scent reminded me of walking into those candy stores at malls, the ones where you paid too much by the pound. The smell of instant diabetes, with a taste to match. I don’t know how you can make a watermelon Jolly Rancher taste sweeter than it already is, but this Pigtown Limited Release achieved it. The only watermelon in this wine was its obviously artificial flavor.
When my tasting partner took his first sip, he literally choked on it. He found it so hard to swallow this wine that he ended up inhaling some of it. And it burned.

The best we can say about Pigtown’s Sweeeeeeet Watermelon wine is that it tastes like off-brand Kool-aid with excessive sugar. I know people who enjoy sweet wine, which in itself isn’t pleasant, but this is something I wouldn’t even recommend to them.
We eat had a single glass and decided there was no need to torture ourselves any further.
