Pennsylvania – Red Blend Wine

Pinnacle Ridge Winery – Levitas – 2022

Price: $18.99 – Pinnacle Ridge Winery, Stewartstown, PA

Driving through massive corn fields in south east Pennsylvania, we sought one of the many wineries in the area. We chose Pinnacle Ridge Winery, as I was curious about their 2022 Levitas red blend wine that they had been promoting on their Instagram account.

I decided on a flight of wine, because I wanted to try many of their varieties. While they have several terrific dry wines, including a magnificent Petit Verdot, we did settle on their Levitas for the review.

This Chambourcin-Petite Syrah blend was a beautiful bright burgundy color, almost a shade of purple in direct light.

The first scent was fermented grape, but the distinct smell of a very good wine. A bouquet of flowers was apparent.

But this wine’s flavor just explodes on the palate of your mouth. There’s a tartness that rolls around the tongue, bringing your taste buds to life. The wine feels light, with the ever-so-slight tinge of sweetness, despite this being a dry wine.

The floral scent translated easily to the flavor, with the taste of wildflowers throughout. Without any forceful tannins, this wine is so pleasant, like a neat California zinfandel.

This Levitas is young and fruit forward. I would recommend it for cuisines that call for a light red, or as an easy-drinking afternoon wine.

Score: 7.8/10

After spending more than a decade tasting wines from all around the world, I decided to taste the various wines made in the United States. Each state in the country makes wine, and I will attempt to taste one from each and review them in this blog. I’m not a professional wine drinker, so my reviews will be based on how I liked each bottle of American wine, versus a professional review.
